Holidays, Plans, and Traveling.

So, just as many other people, I have to travel quite a bit over this years Holiday break. To the say the least, I am not so excited about driving from North Dallas to Austin, and TWICE in one week at that. I had work today from 8a.m. to 5p.m., yes, on Christmas Eve. Once I get off work I get to promptly hop in my car and make a 3.5 hour trip to Central Texas to spend Christmas with my family. I wish I could really just say this will be enjoyable, but right after presents are opened and food is eaten I have to hop right back in my car and drive back to Denton. Sigh. Don't get me wrong, I love my family and can't wait to see them, but it just sucks I have to work the day before and after Christmas (don't feel too bad for me, as I was the one that volunteered to do this).

I get to drive RIGHT BACK to Austin on Friday night, with a friend this time. We are all going to a see a mutual friend of ours that decided he likes Canadian higher education. Oddly enough, his parents live near Austin. So the master plan is that myself, my roommate (he's also one of the gang, not just a tag-along), and 2 of my "OG" friends that will be stationed in my home town for the holidays to meet up and hang out with our friend from the great white north! It has been YEARS since we have all been in the same room at one time. I am seriously impressed with myself that I was able to get everyone to go! I'm excited and even though it will only be a 1 night and 1 day gathering, I believe it will be one hell of a night in Austin, Texas!

This post was in a huge rush, as I only had 15 minutes to compose it before I got off work, but you can get the fuck over it. Those are my holiday plans and I can't wait for them to unfold!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Years!

The Much Needed Update.

So the semester is over. I passed everything, yes, everything. It feels so good to be on "break". It's actually very relaxing even though I'll be working quite alot over the break, which is necessary to pay my bills-n-stuff. So, now that I can sigh without feeling like I've wasted valuable time I could have spent doing more constructive things such as school work, I'm pretty excited to say the least.

Now that that's out of my system, I'll continue to talk about a few things I'm excited for in the next few weeks. First off, 1 acronym. WoW. I *still* have yet to play the Wrath expansion. After hearing from some very credible sources (and many non-credible sources) I've decided to see what all the hype is about and hop back on the wagon. To be honest, the things I'm most excited about are just what spec I will be to level. Choosing whether I want to be Fury (Titan Grip Hoo!) or Prot while I level is a very hard to decision and has put me in a state of flux since I first decided to come back to the game. The one thing I'm sure of is that I won't level as Arms, mainly because I was arms for the longest time before I quit nearly 3 months ago. Arms just won't be as exciting to me as trying a brand new spec. I'm fairly convinced that I'll go Fury, and I'll explain why. I have amazing pvp gear; a combination of Season 2, 3 and 4, along with 2 very nice two handed weapons. To me, this looks like the exact recipe used to make a pwnage pie, and I'm here to feed noobs. I am also really excited about Dual Specs. I won't elaborate why, because you should know. I seriously can't wait to level up and get my ass in to Naxx. I think Blizzard has made leaps and bounds since when they first introduced this game. The smartest thing they could do with old instances is open them back up with new loot, as they did with Naxx. I'm just glad I'll actually get to finish that place now that it doesn't take a whopping 40-man raid. I think I was only 5 boss encounters from clearing that whole place with my old raiding guild. Wow, that was even before The Burning Crusade was released.. I owe it all to my brother for my return to this amazing game, as he is the one purchasing it for me for Christmas, and my dad for buying me some play time (even though he thinks I should be working instead).

On a different note, I am excited for next month because I move into my new apartment with my new-ish roomate, which happens to be a good friend of mine. I will be a block from my school and my work, since I work on campus. All in all, a very great season for me.

Left4Dead Week

So it's "dead week" here at the University of North Texas, although, that title is not appropriate whatsoever. I am more busy than ever. Not only do I have 4 exams to study for, but I have a project I have yet to start on and I still have work as usual. On top of that my dad thinks I should be looking for a second job to fill in all the "spare" time I'll have during my december "break". So now you know just exactly why I haven't posted anytime recently. Maybe I will be able to sit and play some games at the conclusion of next week. Here's to high hopes!

Quantum of Solace

I have been holding out for a few days now. Yes, I couldn't force myself to write a review on a movie that I was expecting to be a little more than was delivered. Don't take that the wrong way, I really enjoyed the new Bond film, but it just doesn't reach the Casino Royale expectations I was hoping it would surpass. I was reading Jeff Green's blog just a hot second ago, when I realized he has the exact same opinion about this movie as I do. So instead of ranting about all the things I loved and hated about this film, I will just quote Mr. Green when he says, "Daniel Craig rules." I couldn't have said it better.

Wrath of the Death Knight, err.. Lich King?

I figured I'd hop on my friends account(since my account is long expired) and steal a little footage of another friends Deathknight action. It's just a short clip, but I anticipate the "nerf stick" hitting this class VERY soon. And yes, they walk on water 15% faster than anyone you know. Wait, what?

Also, here's a fun World of Warcraft music video..

BEHOLD, CREATIVITY.

I can't begin to tell you how amazingly excited I am that my group 2010 ad project is nearing completion. On Thursday we (my awesome group) present our ad to a classroom FULL of judgmental kids who will be than convinced their groups' project will be the best. Needless to say, I don't know if we'll win the client, nor do I care if we do.. I'm in it for the grade, plain and simple. On that note, I'll tell you exactly who the client is, that way you can better understand the ad at the top of the page. Our client is a band called 'Brave Combo'. They started in good ole '79. It is fairly hard to market such an old band to such a young demographic, but I think we succeeded. Also, I love adobe photoshop.

I still 'get' me.

I have been reading ALOT of blogs lately, but one my favs is definitely Hipster Runoff. I came across one of the funnier posts today. It's basically a letter written to "mom" from an "alternative kid" about how well they are doing and how no one 'gets' them. It's a good laugh. Check it out.

Hi mom,
Haven’t really tried to communicate with you since mother’s day. I appreciate the fact that you have kept money flowing into my account. I’m working on getting a job, I promise. Things are just busy at design school. You’ll be happy to know that I have a set of very demanding professors who are getting the best of me. Needless to say, I have big dreams.

I know that sometimes you don’t ‘get’ my lifestyle. That’s okay. One day you will. The truth is that I am an artist. I need to tell the world who I am and what is on my mind. Whether it’s the way I dress, the content in my facebook profile, or the doodles that I make on coffee shop napkins, all of these small things represent me. (Even though they are small, I have learned to consider them meaningful.)

I’ve had a lot of false starts on my journey towards adulthood, but please know that I have really matured. I voted for the first time in this election, and I felt like I was part of something bigger than myself. I know you weren’t an Obama supporter, but hopefully I can change your mind at Thanksgiving dinner. Maybe we can also talk about how I don’t believe in God any more, if time permits.

You see? I have my own mind now. Free of being impressionable. I am unique these days, mom. You’d be proud of me. The other night, my friends and I stayed up til 6 a.m. drinking box wine and talking about life/philosophy/design/consumerism. I just think things are really headed in the right direction for me. I might have to study abroad soon to make sure I am immersed in a meaningful culture where authentic ideas can really soak into my brain.

Thanks for all of your support, mom. I know sometimes you don’t ‘get’ why I am the way that I am, but one day, it will all make sense. Tell dad I said hey. I hope he isn’t still mad at me for quitting sports in high school. Sometimes I play frisbee golf.

Your son,
AltKid Growing Up

PS: In this envelope, you will find 3 CDs of bands with female singers. You will like them.
a) Feist
b) Crystal Castles
c) Uffie + Beach House mix CD

Give them some times. You’ll grow into them.

P.P.S: Please send a little bit more money. The seasons are changing and I need some new jackets and stuff like that. I have my eye on this black leather one, or maybe a pea coat.

Hello & Welcome!

Hello Folks! So I thought I would start this blog off with one of my more useless posts. What exactly I will be doing today. Since I don't have school, work, or schoolwork to do today, I will be sitting on my ass for the majority of the day. FIRST I am going to attempt to make pancakes (again) without a spatula (at least I have butter this time). After I eat, I will fill the rest of my day with playing CoD: World at War Beta and Gears of War 2 (maybe). Also, a shower may take place at some point.. I'm still unsure of that because I have no one to smell nice for! Here's to an easy day of no responsibilites. HUZZAH!
